Living Here
The most southerly of the Channel Islands, Jersey is located 14 miles from the coast of France.
We have beautiful beaches, a mild maritime climate, plus the great sport and social facilities you’d expect from a holiday island. At the same time, though, we have excellent transport links to all major cities in the UK, with London only a 40-minute flight away.
The currency is pounds sterling and prices are broadly similar to those found in the UK. Some items are more expensive than the UK average, most notably food (because of transport costs) and housing. Having said that though, many things are noticeably cheaper – mainly thanks to the absence of VAT and the low level of excise duties on the island.
There are 87,000 permanent residents on the island, a number which increases significantly in the summer months. So the general standard of facilities and services is excellent.
